Faizabad district

Faizabad district district of Republican Subordination in Tajikistan.

It was formed June 14, 1931.

The regional center - small town Faizabad, situated 50 km east of Dushanbe.

Geography

Faizabad district is located in the Rasht valley, 60 km east of Dushanbe. In the north and west borders Vahdat District in the east from Rogunskaya area, in the south - the Nurek area of Khatlon region. Territory is 1171.5 sq. km. km.

History

The territory of modern Faizabad district to the XVI century was known as «Wēšgird». Toponym dates back to Zend. «Vaesa.krta-», which means "[a city] Visoy created" one of the commanders of the Turanian king Afrasiab. Toponym Faizabad is the later transformation of the medieval Veshgird. Now the name of one of the rural communities in Faizabad district.

Faizabad District was formed June 14, 1931 Decree number 32 of the CEC of the Tajik SSR, signed by the Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Tajik SSR Nusratullo Makhsum and secretary of the CEC A. Zinnatshoevym of rural communities Gumbulak, Hudzhamard, Dubeda, Dehishoh, Sholipaya, Norak, Chuck, and Mehrodzhi Yakkabed, early were part of the Yangibazar district. The district center was designated a village Daragiyan.

In January 1963 Faizabad district became part of Ordzhonikdzeabadskogo area. Restored in January 1969. Then the district center - Daragiyan, was renamed in Faizabad.

Resolution of Majlisi Milli Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan of 29 May 2000 granted the status of the village of Faizabad urban settlement.
